A Very Sad Day In Los Angeles - Marriage

A Judge in the City of Angels has decided that the peoples of Los Angeles were "Un-Constitutional" in their support of Marriage.

Marriage, defined by 1 man and 1 woman.

He used terms like 'moral disapproval' and saying things like, California "has no interest in differentiating between same-sex and opposite-sex unions,"

What does that mean. I guess if you're the one defining them you can make them mean anything. And that's just what happened. A Judge over ruled 52.3% of the people's vote.

It's not over by a long shot. A shallow victory for those attempting to change and redefine Holy Matrimony.

Holy Matrimony will always be between 1 man and 1 woman. No court ON EARTH can ever change that.

Portuguese Bishop teaches against Church teachings

Something needs to be done about this Bishop. I hope B16 is aware of this the mis-teaching of Bishop Januário Torgal Ferreira.

I hope he is being mis-quoted or the translation is incorrect.

.... I hope.

The Church welcomes homosexuals, in fact. As long as they do not practice their homosexuality...

It is certain that a homosexual couple is not theoretical, isn't it? And affections are translated through this practice, through this psychic-affective fusion of mysterious unity that is the human being.

The Church must understand this?

VP- Smartass Remark?

"Lower our taxes..."

Why is this being reported as a 'smart-ass' remark? The VP decided to use this owners place of business as a photo opportunity and rather than just nod and give out free ice cream he wanted to express his views to the VP.

So what's wrong with that? Why didn't Mr. VP give him an answer? Why does the Main Stream Media (MMM) have to demonize the ice cream shop owner? Because he didn't allow the VP to use him?

Could it be that the MMM
is not on the side of the people? That's becoming more and more evident. This ice cream shop owner is just another in a long line of regular, everyday people getting slammed by the press for not fully agreeing with this disastrous administration, starting with Joe the Plummer.

What a snake in the grass he is. How dare he voice his thoughts to the VP...give me a break.

The press is definitely not on the side of the people. They can't even just report the news. They have to SHAPE the news to. And what's worse is that many will swallow it whole.

Hang in there ice cream shop owner. Don't apologize for doing something we all want to do. Voice our frustration on this administrations deftness.

Biden Calls Custard Shop Manager a 'Smartass' After Taxes Comment
Vice President Biden called the manager of a custard shop outside of Milwaukee, Wis., a "smartass" after the man asked him to lower taxes. Biden made the comment Friday after the Kopp’s Frozen Custard shop manager told him that his dessert would be on the house if he lowered taxes. "What do we owe you?" Biden is heard saying in footage captured by WISN-TV.

Give Me the Money!

There are many people, families, businesses affected by the oil spill in the Gulf. And I'm sure there are plenty of more victims to come as long as the oil flows. Even if it's stopped the damage will continue to happen.

They all need to be compensated for their loses and in good time.

Having acknowledging that I remember Katrina as should everyone, and the amount of dollars, rightfully poured into that region.

I also remember the headlines of fraud, millions of dollars spent and nothing to show for it. It still goes on today.

It seems nobody wants to talk about that for fear of being called insensitive, unsympathetic.

This article seems to smack of that sentiment.

"Claimers are being turned away" the message seems to be saying. Why, because they don't have the proper paperwork. While many can empathize with that, having stood in long lines at lets say the DMV or Social Security Office only to be told at the front of the line, "we can't help you because you don't have the proper paperwork together. It could be a driver's license or birth certificate or electric/gas bill to prove residents or ID.

While this can be frustrating one comes to realize that the proper paperwork is needed. We just want to be told before we stand in line what's actually needed.

I believe that is the case with Oil Claims. It's not that they are just turned away by BP. It's one of those government red tape things just like the DMV or Social Security Office.

Instead of the further demonizing of BP, some justified some not, that the administration should be recognized as part of the problem.

Katrina is still going on and this oil spill will be with us for a long time. I hope all who deserve to compensated get compensated in quick time. I hope the fraud is at a minimum.

BP Oil Spill
Millions of dollars worth of claims have been filed by businesses and people who've lost their livelihoods because of the BP oil spill, but 60 days into the crisis, lawmakers say the company has paid only 12 percent of them.

Jobs?...You call these Jobs?

the Admin is touting the 431K job increases for last month.

95% of this job growth is the the government sector not private sector. Many of these jobs are for TEMPORARY CENSUS WORKERS!

Hello, these jobs will go away as quick as they came! I don't get it. Yesterday I saw an article that list where people are migrating to in the U.S. Guess where that place is?

Yup. Washington D.C.!

It's not fair to say but I can't help myself...."when you're looking for a handout, you go to the source".

Sorry, I feel better now.

Economy adds 431K jobs but few in private sector
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Job creation by private companies grew at the slowest pace of the year in May, even while the hiring of temporary census workers drove overall payrolls up 431,000. The unemployment rate dipped to 9.7 percent as many people gave up searching for work.
The Labor Department's new employment snapshot released Friday suggested that outside of the burst of hiring of temporary census workers by the federal government many private employers are wary of bulking up their work forces.

That indicates the economic recovery may not bring relief fast enough for millions of Americans who are unemployed.

Virtually all the job creation in May came from the hiring of 411,000 census workers. Such hiring peaked in May and will begin tailing off in June.

By contrast, hiring by private employers, the backbone of the economy, slowed sharply. They added just 41,000 jobs, down from 218,000 in April and the fewest since January.

Bashing Beatle - Oh Paul

Notre Dama and Obama, One Year Ago...

How quickly time has past since the headlines read 'Obama at Notre Dame'.

What has changed at ND?

....what hasn't

Defending the decision last year to invite President Obama to speak at commencement, the University of Notre Dame’s president, Father John Jenkins, spoke of his hopes for a sort of exchange.

“The president’s visit to Notre Dame can help lead to broader engagement on issues of importance to the country and of deep significance to Catholics,” Father Jenkins wrote at the time. “Ultimately, I hope that the conversations and the good will that come from this day will contribute to closer relations between Catholics and public officials who make decisions on matters of human life and human dignity.”

I didn't buy it then and I don't buy into it now.

The 'Real Presence' of Christ

Either you believe or you don't .... and Fr. Mike Kelly.....Doesn't!

Fr. Mike: Regrettably, all too frequently, the only Presence focused on is Christ’s presence in the elements of bread and wine. Inadequately described as the change of the “substance” (not the “accidents”) of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ, the mystery of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist carries the intellectual baggage of a physics no one accepts. Aristotelian physics makes such nice, however implausible and now unintelligible, distinctions. They are meaningless in the post-Newtonian world of quantum physics, which is the scientific context we live in today.

British Diplomats - Anti-Catholic bashing

British Diplomats show their true colors prior to a visit by the Holy Father. This is not surprising to me considering one is always reading about the medical activities of England regarding embryo experimentation and atheist plotting the arrest of B16. The sad lose of faith in general.

Here in this instance, it's just been exposed for what it's worth. My thoughts are, I'm glad the Holy Father is still going to visit. I'm sure he is aware of these shenanigans however he realizes there are the faithful however small there awaiting his visit.

Let's keep our Holy Father in our prayers.

Ridiculing the Pope (CMR)

In preparation for Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Great Britain, a group of British diplomats circulated a memo offering suggestions for a to-do list of sorts for the Pope including launching a new line of ‘ Benedict’ condoms, inviting the Pope to open an abortion clinic or bless a gay marriage.

Nice, huh?

While the British government quickly offered an official apology many sources in the British government and media seem to be saying that anyone truly offended by the memo simply lacks a sense of humor. Mind you, I’m a fan of satire and humor. Over at my blog Creative Minority Report we keep things pretty light. But what the British Foreign Office did this week can’t really be dismissed as a bit of satire as it hardly rises to the level of intelligence to be called satire. Calling it “sophomoric” is an insult to fourth graders.

Cool, The Holy Father knows the power of the internet in spreading the Gospel.

The need to give the Internet a soul and humanize the dynamics of the digital world was at the heart of Pope Benedict XVI’s message Saturday to participants in a conference on modern means of mass communication.

Rather than for, albeit necessary, technical resources, we want to qualify ourselves by living in the digital world with a believer’s heart, helping to give a soul to the Internet’s incessant flow of communication”. More on 3 Parent Babies

CMR has a great post to follow-up on the my 1 Dad 2 Mom post.

3 Parent Embryo's (Mary Meets Dolly)
Previously, I blogged about 3 parent monkeys that were created to "cure" mitochondrial disease. I warned that there was a push to create 3 parent human embryos for the same purpose. Well less than a year later, scientists in the UK announced they have created human embryos with 3 genetic parents.

Why would scientists want to engineer an embryo with the genetic material from 3 people? To "prevent" the inheritance of mitochondrial disease. Not all of our DNA that we inherit is in the nuclei of the egg and sperm that join at conception. In the cytoplasm of our mother's egg are mitochondria. Mitochondria have their own DNA called mtDNA. We inherit our mtDNA only from our mother because sperm's mitochondria are dumped at conception. There are genetic mutations that cause disease in mtDNA and a woman with a such a mutation cannot help but pass this mutation on to her children.

Plenary Indulgence for Reading Scripture

Taylor Marshall of Canterbury Tales Blog has a post on this indulgence

Who said Catholics don't read the Bible? Did you know that the Church grants an indulgence to those devoutly read Sacred Scripture. (By the way, an indulgence is the remission of temporal punishment for a sin already forgiven by God.

Our Lord is so generous He wants to share the treasure trove of Graces he has given his Church to share.

1 Dad, 2 Moms = 1 Baby

Doctors in England have been experimenting with combining the DNA for multiple people, in this case one man and two women to create live embryos.

The reason they say is to create babies with less defects, designer babies per say. What erks me about this whole thing is what the lead researcher Professor Doug Turnbull says about this experiment.

"What we've done is like changing the battery on a laptop."

This doesn't sound like someone who really takes life serious despite what his stated motivation for this whole experiment is for.

Then, further down in the article he states that he had to destroy the embryo's (BABIES !) 8 in total because he really doesn't have permission to keep these embryo's alive.

The scientists would need a special licence to culture embryos for longer periods and the procedure would currently be illegal in IVF clinics.

NASA Science or Politics?

Just finished hearing our beloved President give one of his sun shine speeches. Then I was further treated to Foxnews' Shepperd Smith fawning over the wonders of Obama's brilliance.

It's like having a piece of MSNBC at the heart of the day 12:00 Noon WestCoast time, in the middle of the Foxnews programming.

It's funny to hear FNC opponents bash everyone else on Fox except Shep (as he likes to call himself). He's their bubby in the ranks.

Anyway, back to the speech. Yes it was the typical "all fluff and air" speech, full of landing on Astroids and Mars travel.

But he isn't fooling all of the experts. Experts like Astronaut Homer Hickam or Neil Armstrong, James Lovell, Gene Cernan or Dr Scott Horowitz.

Not all the expert disagree with the President though. Buzz Aldrich seems to faDll in line with the Obama and even got a call out, not surprising from the Prez in his remarks.

All in all it's more moneys to NASA but with no clear place to put it. No man-space travel. We'll be thumbing a riding with the Russians.

The 'Orion' program was mentioned but I was apart of the proposal team for this program. Our side lost the bid. But the winners don't have a good plan and mark my words, they will not perform.

So why give NASA the 6 billions dollars? I say it's going to buy votes in November.

"My administration kept the economy going in Florida" That will be the line in November.

Here's the real message: "Here's 6 billion dollars, now shut-up and vote Democrat in November"

"The Curtain was torn in two, from top to bottom"

Our Men's Group at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, is doing a study on the Holy Mass. We are using Scott Hahn's book 'The Lamb's Supper' in our study.

During last weeks meeting the topic of the 'Torn Curtain' in the Gospel's of Luke and Mark was discussed.

Questions were asked as to what does this mean? So I did a quick lunch time study to search out the answer. The following is by no means a thorough study but it points out the Catholic interpretation and hopefully will stimulate a deeper study.

Q: A Fundamentalist Baptist friend wants to know how the Catholic Church views the curtain being torn in half as Christ expires. He says his church views it as proof that it is no longer necessary for God's people to be under an institutional Church or clergy.
A: Then how to explain the fact that after the curtain was torn in half-after the Resurrection-Jesus proceeded to appoint clergy and establish a Church? Christ's sacrifice and the tearing of the curtain symbolize several things:

1) The Jewish economy (the Law of Moses or the Old Covenant) has been done away with.

2) Our high priest (Jesus) has the right to enter the heavenly tabernacle.

3) We approach God through Jesus and the Christian economy rather than through the Jewish or Mosaic economy.

4) That heaven has now been opened to receive the saints, who were previously kept at Abraham's bosom. What it doesn't imply is the demise of all rituals (or else we would not have baptism and the Eucharist) or that there will be no priests in the Law of Christ/New Covenant way of approaching God. It simply signifies the passing away of the Jewish economy.
Source

There is one important detail which Matthew does not fail to observe: "The curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom" (17:51). This was the curtain separating the sanctuary from the Holy of Holies (cf. Ex. 26:31); on Jesus' death it was torn, indicating (this has been the traditional interpretation of the Church) that the old Mosaic cult had come to an end and a new era had begun, that of the New Covenant, sealed with the blood of the Son of God. Through this New Covenant man can be born again to a new life, leaving behind fear and any kind of pessimism, for death has been overcome by Life. Source

Q The Bible teacher at my (Baptist) school says that the curtain of the Temple being torn in two when Christ died (Luke 23:45) meant that priests were no longer needed. I have thought about ways to try and explain how priests are needed, but have had no luck. Please help me with an answer.

A The tearing of the temple curtain does indeed mean that the Old Covenant priesthood is no longer needed, for Jesus has taken that role once and for all. Hebrews 7:27 says, "[Jesus] has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself."

So, does that mean your pastor is out of a job? No way. Precisely because Christ remains forever our High Priest, He must reach each one of us today, everywhere. How is He the Priest for you and me, not just for the men and women who lived in first-century Palestine? Through the men whom he has called to "do this in memory of me," to forgive sins and preach the Good News "in His Name." They are priests only because they act "in persona Christi" — it is really Christ who is acting through them.

When Jesus said, "Do this . . . " (cf. Luke 22:14-20), He was gathered with the twelve Apostles. Only, the same was true when "He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained'" (John 20:21-23). He asked a small number (not all) among his followers to, as it were, "lend Him" their humanity, so that He could continue exercising powers that were His alone to discharge. In other words, we are talking about delegated power, or better, a delegated mission: "As the Father has sent me, even so I send you" (John 20:21).

Now, someone might say, "All right, but when the Apostles died, it ended there." Well, that wouldn't make a lot of sense, would it, if Jesus is our eternal High Priest? What's the point of continuing his priesthood for a few decades after his death, and then discontinuing it for the rest of history? Besides, and more importantly, it's not what the Apostles themselves understood.

We see from Acts 1:15-26 that they felt compelled to replace Judas. Further, they left bishops and elders (priests) in every city they evangelized (take a look at Titus 1:5), to continue their ministry. Those bishops ordained other priests and bishops who ordained others . . . on and on until today. Without them, there would be no Eucharist or forgiveness of sins, and we wouldn't be able to faithfully carry out Christ's command. So you see why the priesthood is necessary. True followers of Christ can't live without it! Source

Luke: 23:45
Ignatius Study Guide Commentary Gospel of Luke: Curtain – One of the two veils that separated God’s presence from his people in the Jerusalem Temple. That this curtain is torn at the time of the Crucifixion indicates that Jesus’ suffering is a sacrificial and priestly act that opens for us a new and living way into the sanctuary of heaven (Heb 10:19-22).

Source

Ignatius Study Guide Commentary Gospel of Mark: the curtain – Two veils hung in the Jerusalem Temple to symbolize God’s inaccessibility to sinners (Heb 9:8). One was visible, as it separated the outer courts from the sanctuary proper, and the other was invisible to all but the priests, as it hung inside the sanctuary in front of its most sacred chamber, the Holy of Holies (Ex 26:31-34; Heb 9:3, 7). Although the evangelist does not specify which of the two veils was torn, the lesson to be learned is clear: access to the Father is now open through Jesus, who as high priest has entered on our behalf (Eph 2:18; Heb 10:19-22). Moreover, as the curtain ripped ‘from top to bottom’, the barrier between the face of God and his people was removed, and the termination of the Old Covenant was prophetically announced, ‘was torn’: Mark uses the same Greek expression at 1:10 to describe God “tearing” the heavens at the Baptism of Jesus. If a connection is being made between these two events, as seems likely, it may have been the outer veil draped in front of the sanctuary that was rent in two, since history (Josephus) testifies that it was embroidered with images of the cosmos.
Source

“ I Turned to See” (Lamb’s Supper – Scott Hahn, pg 71)

Likewise, it’s easy to understand why the early Christians considered the torn temple veil so theologically and liturgically significant. The veil was torn just as Christ’s body was decisively torn. As Jesus completed the earthly offering of His body, God made sure that the world would know that the veil had been removed from “the Temple.” Now everyone – brought together in the Church – could enter His presence on the Lord’s Day.

Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way which He opened for us through the curtain [or veil], that is, through His flesh ….let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together… but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near (Heb 10:19-20, 24-25).

“In the Spirit on the Lord’s day,” John saw something that was more sweeping than any narrative or any argument could convey. He saw that part of the world was already taken up into a new heaven and a new earth.

Planned Parenthood: "Thank you Catholic Sisters"

Not all Catholic nuns were supporting the health care LAW that just passed, but there were a few and well, maybe more than a few who's support Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards would like to reach out and thank.

AmP facebook page has the post.... very very sad.

The Bunny Must Die... Satiric of Course

I thought this was different...

Among the peeves I keep as pets, chief is my loathing of the Easter Bunny. There are many reasons to hate the Bunny. I will get into why in particular the Bunny, but first to some other pressing business.

Why is it that religious holidays require mascots to make them palatable to secularists who otherwise wouldn’t give a fig about the celebration? While some mascots are cool in their own right, most add nothing and typically detract from the holiday’s expressed purpose.

CNN Uses 3 Desenting Catholics to Judge the Catholic Church

Let's face it, CNN will never be able to use the slogan 'Fair and Balanced' with any legitimacy.

Case in point, this interview between CNN Host Kyra Phillips and her Catholic Guests, Dan Bartley is president of the Voice of the Faithful, Francis DeBernardo, executive director of New Ways Ministry and Reverend Serene Jones, who isn't even Catholic, is president of the Union Theological Seminary.

Read the post from CMR and News Busters to find out there NON-Catholic views.

CNN's Kyra Phillips brought on three heterodox Christians on Friday's Newsroom, all of whom endorse leftist "reforms" inside the Catholic Church, such as women priests and acceptance of homosexual behavior. Phillips didn't bring on any guests who defended the Church's positions, and actually egged on her guests: "I think all three of you need to head to the Vatican and institute some change."

B16: Keeping the record straight...

Great article on the Crisis in the Church. John L Allen Jr puts things back in perspective about the assault by the media on the Pope and the Catholic Church.

Creative Minority Report has the post.

I wanted to post a clip of the article but CMR should get the credit for bring this to my attention.

The Great FALSE Pope B16 Coverup!

With all the false accusations going around the secular media pertaining to the Europe church sex scandal, it seems that some Catholics are falling for the false rhetoric.

The vile false rhetoric from Christopher Hitchens is one that need to be addressed.

InsideScoop has a great post that showcases the rebuttal from Sean Murphy who sets the record straight by stating the "cold facts" backed up by sources and footnotes.

...something that Hitchens is oblivious to using.

Sunday: A Vote for Life Today

Today is the day that Congress votes on the Health Care Bill.

Today is the day that The Democratic Party will be officially 'The Party of Death" if this bill is passed. There will be no denying it.

No matter what the President's promise is of an 'executive order' it won't be written into the bill. The executive order promise to Stupak of writing abortion language in place of including the language into the bill to appease pro-lifers.

This is not the end of the fight. Passage of this bill goes against the wishes of the people. Keep up the calls and letter writing and most of all let's keep up the prayers.

Especially for those Catholic politicians in Congress who have put their faith aside. And I might include may of my fellow Catholics.

Below are some articles and web posts and video for the events of the day.

Archbishop Chaput : Quote of the Day

Archbishop Chaput:Quote of the Day:

The long, unpleasant and too often dishonest national health-care debate is now in its last days. Its most painful feature has been those “Catholic” groups that by their eagerness for some kind of deal undercut the witness of the Catholic community and help advance a bad bill into a bad law. Their flawed judgment could now have damaging consequences for all of us.

InsideScoop has the analysis on Archbishop Chaputs words...

Archbishop Chaput: Another Great Health Care Column

We need more Bishops like him:

Archbishop Chaput: Health care bill doesn’t meet minimum moral standards
“The Senate version of health-care reform currently being forced ahead by congressional leaders and the White House is a bad bill that will result in bad law,” says the archbishop in his column titled, “Catholics, health care and the Senate’s bad bill,”

'We need Abortion in the Bill to Lower Health Care Cost' - Oh my Gosh!

I'll stunned at what this video shows. Everyone needs to hear this dirty little secret told by Dem's behind closed doors.

Every Catholic needs to show this to our brothers and sisters in the faith who still insist that the Obama adminsitration is still the best way to lower abortions.

It doesn't get any clearer than this...

AmP has the post and video

Don’t believe the lies some Catholics are telling us (that this bill doesn’t siphon money to abortions) – what I quoted above is what the Democrat leadership actually wants (and believes they are getting): abortion in the health care plan as a cost-saving provision.

This mentality, this perverted goal is what Bart Stupak is trying to fight.

The question remains: which side are you on? On the side of Stupak, or the side of the Democrats quoted above?

Colorado's Fr. Breslin sides on the side of Truth!

My wife told me about this story from Boulder Colorado yesterday of 2 children of a Lesbian couple who where denied schooling at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School.

Creative Minority Report as some great resources to help explain the situation. I especially like Fr. Z's take on the story.

Child of Lesbian Couple Denied Entrance to Catholic Schoool

I totally agree with and support the priest of the parish who made the decision, Fr. Breslin. A brave man who is taking a lot of heat, I would even say persecuted for the Truth of our Faith. What makes this even worse is that much of the attack is coming from his own flock, at least those who are taken by the secularist, relativistic arguments.

I listened to Bill O'Reilly on the way home from work today and for an individual who likes to claim his stake in the Catholic faith I recognize that he is COMPLETELY WRONG in chastising the decision of the parish school pastor, who by the way has the backing of the Archbishop of the Diocese, Archbishop Chaput.

The arguments are so well explained that I would like just to point you in the direction where you can find them. I dare not mislead or take away from those who can explain the points better than I can.

I don't believe the media and those with an agenda will let this go, so please inform your conscience with the truths of the Catholic Church the church Jesus established. You can't go wrong if you follow His teachings.

Satan in the Vatican?

(Giulio Napolitan/AFP/Getty images)
Saw this posted on the Drudge Report during lunchtime.

The associated article from TimesOnline is interesting and the MSM may have a hey day with it but to me it's not too surprising.

Pope Benedict's talked about it in his audiences.

I have no doubt that Satan is banging on the doors of the Vatican or may be even with it's walls. Satan was acting within the small group Jesus gathered around him and his influence on Judas is a fact of our faith.

After all Satan knows where his challenge lies and Jesus' church is where the devil would concentrate his attacks. Going after the leadership would truly be the gain of the Evil One.

Everyone is influenced by Satan, it's fruits are called sin. Now I don't take lightly Fr. Gabriele Amorth's comments. I think he has some valid points of concern and frankly some of those thoughts give me the Hebee Gebee's.

But I do trust Jesus' words "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." Matthew 16:18

Will the church as we know it today change in the future. A new start so to speak. A different kind of hierarchy perhaps laity at the top clerical at the bottom?

I think not.

The Pope's address to the weekly audience continued the reflections on St. Bonaventure that he had begun the previous Wednesday. In this second talk, the Holy Father concentrated on St. Bonaventure's response to Joachim of Fiore and the "spiritual" Franciscans, who had taught that a new phase of history was beginning, in which the Church hierarchy would disappear and the enlightened faithful would be guided only by the Holy Spirit.

St. Bonaventure opposed that error, the Pope observed, and in rebutting it he upheld the true teaching of St. Francis of Assisi. The faithful should not follow radical new teachings, but should recognize that "there is no other Gospel, no other Church to be awaited." The Franciscans, St. Bonaventure insisted, should work within the structure of the hierarchical Church.

Genuine reform always follows the same pattern, working with the Church rather than seeking to replace it, the Pope said. But he pointed out that the temptation to conceive an entirely new institution endures today. MORE

I say that kind of temptation (to change the church) is just an attempt to change the teachings of the church. The Secular society would like nothing better than to accomplish that. To silence the church altogether would solve all their problems and stamp out opposition to their agenda of gay marriage, abortion, euthanasia etc...

Anyways those are just my initial thoughts. I'm looking forward to reading the much deeper Catholic minds out there.

Here's the article:

Sex abuse scandals in the Roman Catholic Church are proof that that "the Devil is at work inside the Vatican", according to the Holy See's chief exorcist

Father Gabriele Amorth, 85, who has been the Vatican's chief exorcist for 25 years and says he has dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession, said that the consequences of satanic infiltration included power struggles at the Vatican as well as "cardinals who do not believe in Jesus, and bishops who are linked to the Demon".

Avatar - It's just a movie for goodness sakes!

I can't tell you how many friends I talk with that are promoting the film (Avitar) that say something to the effect "It's just a movie, it doesn't have any hidden agenda!."

or

"Why can't you just turn off your mind and just see the movie?"

If you've read (I say read because though I tuned in to the Oscar's for about 45 minutes, I didn't see much more) some of the responses of the celeb's on the Avitar movie, including James Cameron himself, the denial that the movie doesn't have a message that the director wants you to come away with goes down the tubes......

InsideScoop has the post on this "cat-out-of-the-bag" moments of the Oscar Awards night.

James Cameron congratulates himself for rooting against humanity
Anyhow, Cameron was joined by Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, and they made deep, heavy observations about Avatar and related topics. So deep. So heavy. Like a book of poetry by Britney Spears:

James: I guess I'm most proud of the fact that we made a big commercial movie and it played by the rules of a big commercial movie—we reached a big global audience—but we did it with a message. And I would even argue that some of the success of the film is based on the fact that people are feeling this other level to it. It's connecting them to nature, it's connecting them to a sense of an important cause.

Sigourney: I think that's what so wonderful is that people come up and the first thing they say is, "I've never seen anything like it, and it's so moving."

Zoe: Yeah, I think about a month ago I took my niece and she's only six—and we did talk about this, about how it might not be appropriate for kids under a certain age—but a 6 year old, they get up every 20 minutes to go to the bathroom . For 2 hours 40 minutes, she never got up, never uttered a word. It touched her in such a way that I'm driving her home and I'm like, "So do you want to talk about it?" and she's like, "I think I might need a moment." There was this peace. She got it, it made her feel.

Sam: Well, you listen to a song, okay? The first time you listen to a song you get off on the beat or the way it's put together or the way the band plays it. The first time you see this you get blown apart by the emotion of it, the world that you've created, all the special visual effects. But you only keep going back to the song over and over again if the words actually hit your heart, and people aren't just coming back to this movie twice or three times. We're talking to people who've seen it five or ten times.

James: The film asks us to look at ourselves as human beings from the outside, really if you think about it, from nature's point of view. If we could go and take the perspective of nature and look back at ourselves, that's what the film is doing and by the end of the movie you're rooting for nature.
MORE

I don't care so much of a message the movie wants you do see. Most if not all movies do. I just hate when individuals don't want to admit it.

"Just turn off your mind and enjoy the movie" just doen't cut it for me. Especially this movie which has a message of 'humanity vs. nature'.

The message: Nature should win.

Health Care Bill - Abortion, who is right?

AmP has the post. Thanks AmP

Who is right on the Abortion funding? (video)
The commentary I posted yesterday has prompted more than a few folks to ask me to back up my claim that the Senate health care legislation is indeed pro-abortion. Rep. Stupak is also in the targets now for his identical claims. Look at ABC World News try to claim he’s a liar:

Health Care Bill - Hidden Goodies...NOT!

Here's an Eye opener on what's hidden in the health care package.

....there's a prize in every package. (Malt-o-meal slogan)

Hidden Dangers:
It's all supposed to be voluntary, those "home visits" that are tucked into the mammoth Obamacare bill. If you have a strong stomach, and stronger bottom, you can find home visitation on pages 568-595. That's Section 2951 of H.R. 3590, the Senate bill that Harry Reid brought down the chimney on Christmas Eve.

All voluntary, they say, but once you "volunteer" to have the oh-so-helpful folks from Social Services come in to help with your newborns, or with a number of other specified issues, will you ever be able to get rid of them? MORE

Pelosi, The U.S. Catholic Bishops: Abortion Funding in H.C. Bill

The continued insistence of Madame Speaker Pelosi that the proposed Senate bill does not allow for the funding of abortions and her continued insistence to align herself with the U.S. Catholic Bishops is perplexing to say the least.

No matter how many times she is shown the errors of her argument it produces only more denials.

Again with the explanation against her arguments as stated in the last posts link:

“We do not know how anyone who has spoken to the bishops could conclude that the Senate health care bill does not fund abortions. As the bishops have said in their letters to Congress, abortion problems in the Senate bill are so serious that, despite our strong support for expanding access to health care, we will have to oppose the bill unless they are resolved," he said.

“While the Senate bill includes some language limiting the direct use of tax credits to subsidize abortion coverage, it still violates longstanding federal precedent on abortion funding in two ways," Doerflinger explained.

“First, the Senate’s abortion language limits only use of tax credits for abortion in qualified health plans, not other funding in the bill. For example, the bill authorizes and appropriates $7 billion for services at community health centers (increased to $11 billion in the President’s new proposal). The Hyde amendment does not prevent direct use of these billions of dollars for elective abortions (because the funds are not provided through the appropriations bill governed by Hyde); nor does any provision in the Senate bill," the pro-life Catholic leader said.

“Second, the Senate’s language on tax credits still allows subsidies for overall health plans that cover elective abortions, against the policy of the Hyde amendment and other longstanding federal laws. The bill requires each American purchasing such a plan to make a separate payment to the insurer every month, solely to pay for other people’s abortions. This is an enormous imposition on the consciences of the millions of Americans who oppose abortion," Doerflinger concluded in his statement.

Maybe Ms. Pelosi's views as a Catholic Politician need to be corrected again as well...

This article by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput as posted at Catholic Culture Blog is a great way to do this as well as self education on the impact of President Kennedy's speech on Religion in the Political area, which he made some 50 years ago, and it's fruits we see today.

I can only hope the Ms. Pelosi would read it as well.

Christianity in American Political Life

...
Fifty years ago this fall, in September 1960, Sen. John F. Kennedy, the Democratic candidate for president, spoke to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association. He had one purpose. He needed to convince 300 uneasy Protestant ministers, and the country at large, that a Catholic like himself could serve loyally as our nation’s chief executive. Kennedy convinced the country, if not the ministers, and went on to be elected. And his speech left a lasting mark on American politics. It was sincere, compelling, articulate – and wrong. Not wrong about the patriotism of Catholics, but wrong about American history and very wrong about the role of religious faith in our nation’s life. And he wasn’t merely “wrong.” His Houston remarks profoundly undermined the place not just of Catholics, but of all religious believers, in America’s public life and political conversation. Today, half a century later, we’re paying for the damage.

Culinary News: Eating Lottery Ticket

No this is no new delicacy in the culinary world but it is bizarre non the less and it does give me indigestion as well.

Lottery Winner Eats $15,000 Winning Lottery Ticket
Cabin crew on a Thursday flight from Krakow, Poland, to the U.K.'s East Midlands airport congratulated the winner and advised him to claim his prize directly from the company which runs the lottery, according to TheAustralian.com.

But he apparently became so upset that he was not able to collect the prize mid-flight that he decided to digest his winning scratch card ... invalidating his claim.

Vatican II Lessons

Vatican II Lessons have been the topic from Catholic Culture blog.

Dr. Jeff Mirus has put together a short lesson plan on this and its well worth following.

Vatican II on the Church: Introduction
The third document issued by the Second Vatican Council, on November 21, 1964, is undoubtedly the crown jewel—the impressive Dogmatic Constitution on the Church (Lumen Gentium). It is one of the Council's two major documents on the Church, the other being the Constitution on the Church in the Modern World. The former document is clearly devoted to describing the nature of the Church in her deepest identity, while the latter is pastorally oriented toward her specific situation in the modern age, and her mode of action in contemporary circumstances.
