Satan in the Vatican?

Saw this posted on the Drudge Report during lunchtime.

The associated article from TimesOnline is interesting and the MSM may have a hey day with it but to me it's not too surprising.

Pope Benedict's talked about it in his audiences.

I have no doubt that Satan is banging on the doors of the Vatican or may be even with it's walls. Satan was acting within the small group Jesus gathered around him and his influence on Judas is a fact of our faith.

After all Satan knows where his challenge lies and Jesus' church is where the devil would concentrate his attacks. Going after the leadership would truly be the gain of the Evil One.

Everyone is influenced by Satan, it's fruits are called sin. Now I don't take lightly Fr. Gabriele Amorth's comments. I think he has some valid points of concern and frankly some of those thoughts give me the Hebee Gebee's.

But I do trust Jesus' words "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." Matthew 16:18

Will the church as we know it today change in the future. A new start so to speak. A different kind of hierarchy perhaps laity at the top clerical at the bottom?

I think not.

The Pope's address to the weekly audience continued the reflections on St. Bonaventure that he had begun the previous Wednesday. In this second talk, the Holy Father concentrated on St. Bonaventure's response to Joachim of Fiore and the "spiritual" Franciscans, who had taught that a new phase of history was beginning, in which the Church hierarchy would disappear and the enlightened faithful would be guided only by the Holy Spirit.

St. Bonaventure opposed that error, the Pope observed, and in rebutting it he upheld the true teaching of St. Francis of Assisi. The faithful should not follow radical new teachings, but should recognize that "there is no other Gospel, no other Church to be awaited." The Franciscans, St. Bonaventure insisted, should work within the structure of the hierarchical Church.

Genuine reform always follows the same pattern, working with the Church rather than seeking to replace it, the Pope said. But he pointed out that the temptation to conceive an entirely new institution endures today. MORE

I say that kind of temptation (to change the church) is just an attempt to change the teachings of the church. The Secular society would like nothing better than to accomplish that. To silence the church altogether would solve all their problems and stamp out opposition to their agenda of gay marriage, abortion, euthanasia etc...

Anyways those are just my initial thoughts. I'm looking forward to reading the much deeper Catholic minds out there.

Here's the article:

Sex abuse scandals in the Roman Catholic Church are proof that that "the Devil is at work inside the Vatican", according to the Holy See's chief exorcist

Father Gabriele Amorth, 85, who has been the Vatican's chief exorcist for 25 years and says he has dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession, said that the consequences of satanic infiltration included power struggles at the Vatican as well as "cardinals who do not believe in Jesus, and bishops who are linked to the Demon".
