Notre Dama and Obama, One Year Ago...
How quickly time has past since the headlines read 'Obama at Notre Dame'.
What has changed at ND?
....what hasn't
Defending the decision last year to invite President Obama to speak at commencement, the University of Notre Dame’s president, Father John Jenkins, spoke of his hopes for a sort of exchange.
“The president’s visit to Notre Dame can help lead to broader engagement on issues of importance to the country and of deep significance to Catholics,” Father Jenkins wrote at the time. “Ultimately, I hope that the conversations and the good will that come from this day will contribute to closer relations between Catholics and public officials who make decisions on matters of human life and human dignity.”
I didn't buy it then and I don't buy into it now.
The 'Real Presence' of Christ
Either you believe or you don't .... and Fr. Mike Kelly.....Doesn't!
Fr. Mike: Regrettably, all too frequently, the only Presence focused on is Christ’s presence in the elements of bread and wine. Inadequately described as the change of the “substance” (not the “accidents”) of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ, the mystery of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist carries the intellectual baggage of a physics no one accepts. Aristotelian physics makes such nice, however implausible and now unintelligible, distinctions. They are meaningless in the post-Newtonian world of quantum physics, which is the scientific context we live in today.
