Life and the Social Issues

They're all social issues...Healthcare, taxes, war, abortion, jobs, are the all the same?

Catholic Swing Vote?

I don't know, I'm hoping my fellow Catholics get their act together. I mean, President Obama rode the wave of about 54% of the Catholic vote into office.

Shameful

So lets hope the numbers change and we can actually count on the Catholic vote to be just that, a Catholic vote.
Following up on Josh’s post, the picture that is worth a thousand words. It shows that Dems were +10 in 2008 and the GOP may now be +24 among Catholics:

Jesus Halloween Costumes?

I don't know about this. Not a costume I would wear.
Rubs me as a little disrespectful.

Since when is Jesus Christ scary?  Or funny?

Well, the good folks at "Spirit" think so. Spirit is one of the big national distributors of Halloween costumes and paraphernalia.  Perhaps you've visited one of Spirit's superstores recently.  Pre-Halloween, Spirit Superstores pop up like mushrooms, taking temporary space in large, vacant retail outlets.

Spirit offers Jesus costumes to the adult trade.  Some versions of the Jesus costume come with a crown of thorns.  Every version of the Jesus costume has been sold out online.  Perhaps you can scrounge one at your nearest Spirit Superstore.

Wake-Up California

I am a life long Californian, Southern California to be exact.

"I love L.A". to quote a famous Randy Newman song. I know it's been said many times before, but I love the diversity of culture. I love the Philippine breakfast after Sunday Mass, maybe a Mexican dinner or some ribs on the barbecue later for dinner.

I love the weather, yea our seasons here in the south land are not the beautiful red's and yellows, and it's not unusual  for us to grilling our meals for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Hey I love it.

We've had to live through some hard times, earthquakes, riots and now more prominent in our present times, high, very high unemployment, businesses exiting the state.

Other things that make me sad about our State like legalizing Pot smoking, abortions rates shamefully high, poor school scores.

I still love L.A. and there is no place I'd rather live.

But, we are now at a cross road. We are now at a moment in time with the elections on Tuesday, when what we do and how we vote will have a profound affect on our lives today and our children's lives for years to come.

Specifics:
I will not tell you how to vote but I will tell you how I will vote. First I am not a Republican or a Democrat... or any other Party loyalist for that matter.

If I have to identified with anything I would say I am Catholic period. I use that foundation to live my daily life, at work, home, in my community and IN THE VOTING BOOTH.

Therefore, my vote for California Senate will go to Carly Fiorina. Anyone who can sit back and look at our wonderful state and say that Barbara Boxer who's been in office 25 years has made our state better is 1) not being truthful, or 2) is just voting party line, or 3) is totally blind to politics and is getting their information from the local news channels and the MSM. We can not afford to have Barbara Boxer in the Senate one day longer.

For State Governor my vote will be for Meg Whitman. Why Jerry Brown is even being considered is beyond me. His previous positions as Governor, State Attorney General, Mayor, School Board of Trustee show his true colors and for me can be summed up in the phrase "Career Politician". His dirty politics (Meg's nanny story, 'whore' statements) is not reason to vote him in.

To put Boxer and Brown in office would sink California. With a fully Democrat controlled legislature the choke hold would be fatal.

There is plenty of commentary out there to explain the details and I will be posting them from now until Tuesday.

Fellow Californians lets all pray together for our State.

PLEASE VOTE!

It's November 3, 2010. You think you are waking up to a sunny California morning only to realize it's a dark, dark day. Jerry Brown is governor, Gavin Newsom is lieutenant governor, Kamala Harris is attorney general, and the rest of the Democrat ticket has prevailed. California is going to be controlled by San Francisco politics.

Stephen Colbert - Undercover Caholic

Amazing what people convince themselves to believe. This article points out one of the most ridiculous ones I've read in a while.

...but the news day is young.

Stephen Colbert, Secret 'Potent Evangelist' for Catholics?

Liberal comedian Stephen Colbert's joke-testimony to Congress may have been a low moment for the House of Representatives, but apparently, to reporters, it makes him a symbol of holiness.

The Catholic Nun and the Pen

Another story to emphasize the goal of this administration to expand abortion, stem cell research and run over anyone or any body who stands in their way.

And in this case with the help of those that say are on the side of God.

Let's name names here:  Sister Carol Keehan, Sen. Bart Stupak to name a few.

Fellow Catholics, don't be fooled again.

A mushrooming political battle over ObamaCare involving the White House, two incumbent Pennsylvania congressmen, three Catholic hospitals and a nun has just exploded in, of all places, Scranton, Pennsylvania. Charges from the Scranton medical community of intimidation by the Obama White House and its allies are filling the air.

All of this just as Vice President Joe Biden arrives in Scranton today to raise money for one of the participants.

There are two issues at the core of the controversy.

1. ObamaCare and the sale of three Scranton-area Catholic hospitals.

2. The re-election prospects of the two House members, Democrats Paul Kanjorski and Chris Carney, both of whom cast key votes to pass ObamaCare.

Embryonic Stem Cell Treatment ..... How Many Babies

Geron Corporation is celebrated in the news today for it's experimental treatment of a spinal cord, brain injured person.

While I feel for the patient it doesn't excuse the killing of embryo's (babies) for this experiment.Where did the babies come from?

What's worse is that they (Geron) have a license to do this from the Food and Drug administration. This administration was meant to protect us... including babies.

Those Catholics that voted for Obama because they thought he was the one that would stop abortion and the experimentation with baby..well please think again.
U.S. doctors have begun treating the first patient to receive human embryonic stem cells, but details of the landmark clinical trial are being kept confidential, Geron Corp said on Monday.

Geron has the first U.S. Food and Drug Administration license to use the controversial cells to treat people, in this case patients with new
spinal cord injuries. It is the first publicly known use of human embryonic stem cells in people.

CNN: D'Souza vs Spitzer

Former Democratic New York State Attorney General and Governor Elliot Spitzer is being touted as the new card in the hole for CNN.

This brash Lawyer who dishonored himself (and his wife) with his extra marital affairs with numerous prostitutes is now a part of the new face of CNN.

Frankly I don't get it....but non the less in one of his first show case episodes, Elliot Spitzer and Kathleen Parker interview Dinesh D'Souza on his new book 'The Roots of Obama's Rage'.

It's plain to see that Spitzer is eager to make an impression and so he goes on the attack early by declaring that Dinish is "nonfactual" in his book. He of course doesn't provide any legitimate examples that he isn't himself corrected on by Diniesh. At one point Dinesh has to remind Spitzer that Pakistan isn't in the Middle East (it's actually a part of Asia).

If it's a debate that Elliot wants I'm afraid his lawyer antics aren't going to hold up with the quick mind of Dinesh who is well versed in the art of the debate. He won't just answer the questions in a court room style of "just Yes or No". Dinesh was very polite despite the aggressive Elliot and he even has to control his amusement at the remedial antics of Mr. Spitzer.

Anyway, there are a few articles depicting Dinesh as a boob and Spitzer as phenomenal in his new role and that is portrayed as hope for the new program.

I think it's quite obvious that, in this episode anyway that Spitzer needs to do more homework. Parker herself is lost to the upstaging Elliot.

I tried to upload the video but it give an error message "Embed disabled by request."

Fear Islam?

This was an eye opening panel on fearing Islam this past weekend. I was very disappointed with Christine's interviewing skills. She let some much go unquestioned.

The Imam's remarks about flying the flag of Islam over the White House was ridicules and went unquestioned by Christine.

I'm sorry but the moderate Muslim's have no voice in the Islam faith. The are totally at the mercy of the radicals.

Jerry and Gloria , Arm-In-Arm

The more and more I look at this issue of Whitman and he house maid the more and more I smell a rat.

Gloria Alred has represented some very weird characters. I feel, all those lawyer jokes about manipulative, greedy motivated lawyer, well you can put Gloria's name in anyone of those jokes and it would be true.

In this video Greta Van Susteren, a very capable lawyer in her own right, grills Gloria on here representation of Ms. Diaz.

Oh and this is not even going to court?

...this has Jerry Brown written all over it. He didn't deny it during the debate.

Catholicity of Bill O'Reilly

I enjoyed watching the interview with Bill Mahner this week on the Bill O'Reilly. The ongoing political debate between the two is always informative and entertaining.

However, I found the 'religion' portion of the interview to be quite interesting. That part begins around the 14:00 minute mark of the video.

Mr Mahner, a self professed atheist and Mr. O'Reilly a self professed Catholic had a brief exchanged that left me a little frustrated and well embarrassed. Embarrassed because while Mr. O'Reilly is know for his political prowess his knowledge of his own faith is rather limited. To me that doesn't set well for such a high influentially person as he is and as he just emphasised in on his show with some resent public polls supporting this claim to being 'most' influential in a positive sense. In the political realm maybe, but certainly not expressing his religious knowledge.

Mr. Mahner point to Old Testament scripture from Exodus that claimed to justify killing those that didn't keep holy the sabbath day. Mr. O'Reially claimed that he (Catholic) doesn't pay too much attention to the Old Testament, but more on the New Testament. This is so baloney, Catholics take the WHOLE bible in it's entirety, not just the New Testament.

Mr. O'Reilly seemed rather confused on how to defend his faith. He couldn't or didn't know that Jesus didn't come to 'do away from the old' law but to 'fulfill it'. And those passages in the Old Testament have their place in the New Testament. Certainly the Deuteronomy law (second law) has come to pass with the birth of Jesus and his final act on the Cross. How many times in the New Testament did Jesus say "you have heard it said...but now I tell you" bringing the old law into a higher level. The act of Marriage comes to mind as he reminded the crowd that those ancestors had a hardness of heart that is no longer acceptable.

Also O'Reilly over simplifying of the Bible as all "Allegorical" is non-sense. Though some parts are allegorical, as a Catholic 'This is my Body... This is my Blood" is NOT!

Bill O'Reilly regularly defends the right to life which is highly commendable and regularly defends the Christian perspective. I only wish he would study and know his faith as much as it appears he does his political knowledge

The 'Couinter Rally' - One Nation

The 'Counter Rally' claim is not mine,  but quoted by some of it's attendees. I for one am glad to see voters becoming more enthusiastic about the upcoming November voting.

Up front I tell you that I don't agree with the call of this rally to keep the present administration in office. I just don't agree or support their polices. Their polices because I didn't vote for them nor agree with their approach.

At any rate that's what makes this a great nation, in that we are all able to express our opinions.

I was leery about Saturday's rally because of the amount of Union participation and some of the organizers, like planned parenthood, well we just are on opposite corners of the universe on our stand on life. There's no way I want to march with them.

Also it doesn't say much for President Obama to throw his weight publicly on this 'get together'. I'm sure Jon Stewart is scratching his head right about now.

Thousands of people flocked to the Lincoln Memorial for a rally Saturday organized by labor and civil rights groups, hoping to show support for the Democratic agenda in the face of expected GOP election gains next month. MORE
