The End is Near: 2012 Movie

The trailer looks pretty action packed, but so did the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" or was it Yesterday?

I don't take the story line in either all that serious, but American Papist points out the Catholic perspective.

Trailer included...

Anti-Catholic: New mega-movie "2012" is directed by one

Like Matthew Archbold at Catholic Minority Report, "I'm a movie guy." So yes, I was mildly interested in the new movie coming out this weekend "2012".

  1. I read some complaining from some people about this movie not having enough depth and that if you want to go to the movies and put your mind blank then to go see it… THAT’s the point !!! If this movie is like that then I DO WANT TO SEE IT… I go to the movies to be entertained, to leave the mundane problems behind and to have fun… I do not go to the movies to see how good of a job the director made or if the actors are good or bad (I do not even know when an actor is good or bad) or if the movie had a good or a bad plot (granted there are some that are as bad as they can be), I am not a critic and I do not want to be one. – Kate

  2. Thank you for your comments,

"I am not a critic and I do not want to be one"

Well, it seems to me that you are indeed a critic. When you state that you don't care if the movie is bad or good, you will watch it, that's being a critic.

While there are times when I just want to be entertained and I just want a bag of popcorn and some red vines and big screen in front of me, I still tend to be a bit more selective.

    I ask myself questions like:

    1) What kind of movie is it?

If it's a blood guts and gore movie (like 'SAW II" or III, or IV or whatever number) I will not watch it. Mindless senseless killing in this matter is not respectful of life. We get enough of this on the news at night.

Having said that, I have watched Tom Hank's "Saving Private Ryan'. I think this movie shows the sacrifice that our WWII Vets gave for the freedoms we enjoy today.

    2) If the movie has a lot of profanity and/or sexual content, I will not watch it.

The eyes and ears are the pathways to our souls.

    3) Sometimes I prefer to see a drama as opposed to an action movie. Or a thriller to a documentary and visa versa.

If you share any of these thoughts as you approach the ticket stand, then I'm afraid you are a 'Critic' just like the rest of us. We are all critics in one way or another.

I like to watch all sorts of movies, but I admit I do have certain criteria in my selection even if I want some mindless entertainment.

This post is just pointing out one perspective, you are welcome to agree or disagree .... or even both.

I welcome your comments. Please visit again and share your thoughts

God Bless and have a great day

  3. Hi,
Do we really believe in some sort of "change" is going to take place in 2012 based on an ancient culture? In my opinion religion was formed to explain things that were unexplainable to ancient people. Why'd it rain? The rain god made it so. Why is the person acting crazy? He has a demon.

    What is my ponit?

That if there is some "shift" in thinking it will go unnoticed by the masses. Most of us won't realize it's happening until we can look back and see the paradigm shift in retrospect. I believe nothing magical or alien will happen on that day. The same way nothing happened in the year 2000 when all computers were going to fail and the second coming of Christ was supposed to happen. Movie looks interesting though.
