The Emerging Protestant Church

Is this the face of the new Protestant church?

One of the key leaders of today's most cutting-edge church movement has opened an Internet discussion on the issue of same-sex marriage with the bold proclamation that he believes "gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual and queer" individuals can and should live out their sexuality in – and blessed by – the Christian church.

"I now believe that GLBTQ can live lives in accord with biblical Christianity (as least as much as any of us can!)," writes author and church leader Tony Jones, "and that their monogamy can and should be sanctioned and blessed by church and state."

I don't mean to pick on our brothers and sisters. The truth is this frame of thought that Tony Jones has is becoming more and more prevalent in the Catholic church as well.

The passage of Prop 8 leaves us with some hope, however it's easy to see our leaders attempting to pull us away from church teaching.

Sunday was the Solemnity of Christ the King. It's the end of the church calendar as we head into the Advent season.

The Gospel reading for Sunday was on the "goats and sheep" (Matt 25:31-46).

We need to ask ourselves on a daily basis,

'which are we?'
